Better ranking in SERPs

I noticed that OpenLD hasn't been ranking to well yet. I'm starting this thread to brainstorm ideas on how we can improve this in an effort to be more valuable than other link directory scripts.

One thing that comes to mind is the homepage is pretty bland with only the category links. Perhaps descriptions should be shown as well as the option to include "Latest Links" or "Top Links" in the footer instead of as a separate page.
